We get asked fairly often whether someone should do individual therapy or join a group, as if it’s an either-or decision. For most clients it isn’t. Individual sessions are where you make sense of your own history at your own pace, with nobody else’s timeline to consider. Group is where you find out, in real time, how you land on other people — and get a low-stakes place to try responding differently.
Neither replaces the other. We typically start clients in individual sessions and introduce a group once there’s enough foundation to make the group useful rather than overwhelming.
